After you have removed the screws that hold the handle on your door, it is recommended to loosen them and inspect the mechanism to determine how it's performing. Once the handle is in a horizontal orientation, you can put the screws back in place and tighten them to make sure the handle is secure on the base plate. Consider applying a threadlocking solution to the threads of screws to increase grip and prevent them from loosing over time.
There are a variety of reasons why door handles of levers droop. The most frequent cause is that the fixings aren't tight and the lever bearing to get tangled up against the door. It could also be because the levers aren't being operated in a straight line and this is compressing the latch mechanism preventing it from fully springing back into action.
Another common reason is that the sprung lever isn't working properly. This is usually due to the sprung not being in the correct position within the backplate. The easiest way to test this is to turn the handle to see whether it changes to the horizontal position.
It is essential to repair any door handles that are loose immediately. This could lead to excessive wear on the screws and the handle could fall off the base plate. It is also a good idea to tighten all screws that are loose on a regular basis to help to prevent them from becoming loose.
